In 2004 we completed a 'full monty' walk from Cahors in the Lot to Aire-sur-L'Ardour in the Landes Department of Aquitaine, some 230 kms. We planned it all out, leaving plenty of room for rest days, carried full packs and thoroughly enjoyed it all. Yvonne was still recovering from a fairly serious operation which made it feel a better achievement. Not that long afterwards, we had the idea of doing something similar again in a few years.
We are not genuine pilgrims following the Chemin de St Jacques seeking spiritual satisfaction. But the popularity of the route means that it is well marked and that there is plenty of accommodation in a wide range of places. By 2013, we were beginning to revisit the GR65 idea and reflecting on what we had done in 2004.
